For this production, I stayed with more muted earthy tones to draw the all characters deeper into the world of the play and also to make Ophelia stand out when she enters from the water in the first scene. She has become a child of the water and so she emerges with glittery blues, greys and creams, and with a variety of textures to mimic the river. As she interacts with the rest of the characters, her look changes to suggest her integration into their world. By the end, she has stripped down to a nude slip suggesting that she is breaking away from her past altogether to start anew as her own woman.
